July Meeting

Attending:  Erik Sivertsen, Melissa Denker, Michael Smyk, Garret Hill, Andrew Bryan, Mark Daniels, Steven Frett, Melissa Sanchez, Sophie Sanchez

  • Meeting was called to order at 10:15 AM by Melissa Denker
  • Pledge of Allegiance was recited
  • Meeting minutes from June were read by Michael Smyk, (on behalf of Bryan Javor).  Erik Sivertsen made a motion to approve, Melissa seconded the motion.  Unanimous approval.

        • Vice Chairman’s brief – Erik
          • Parade update
            • July 4th weekend went very well
  • Robocall on Municipality Weapons Bans was well received
  • Website updates by Melissa look great
  • Treasurer Update – Andrew Bryan
    • Current Balance – $620.96
      • Updated with cash deposit in April/May from Feb fundraiser
      • Secretary brief – Michael Smyk
        • Shirts looked great.  Went over well in the parades.  Getting quote on Polos for social dinner events, etc.
        • General liability insurance quote received by Cliff Babbey of State Farm.  Will cover in Business portion of meeting.

            • Leadership Institute Meeting
              • Postponed until August 24th per Cor.  Same date as Nunda fundraiser, so we may talk to Bryan to reschedule or move forward.
              • MCYR will sponsor along with GOP and Patriots United
              • Focus will be how to become a local candidate, literature, and event planning
    • August
      • McHenry County Fair
      • Parades
        • Fiesta Days – Next Sunday, July 21st
          • Parade at 1:30 PM with reception at Plum Garden via Randy Hultgren beginning at noon for lineup.
          • Theme is Roses
          • Founders Days – Saturday, July 27th
            • Theme is Wild West
            • Lineup 9 AM, Parade 11 AM
            • Soft en Spiel
            • Settlers Days
              • Need to Register – $50
                • Melissa will look for someone to sponsor our entry at the GOP golf outing on Wednesday
                • No candy, so we can pass out larger stickers perhaps
                  • Per Erik, 2” round stickers, 2500 for $50
                  • Have time to budget and get quotes
    • Pamphlet
      • Bryan will have graphic designer do it
      • Melissa sent context approved
        • Will get quotes and proofs in the next week for 4 x 7
        • Need to get printed by Fair time for distribution
    • MCC Opening Fair
      • Melissa will check into affiliating us into MCC (McHenry County College Republicans, etc.)
      • If not affecting by-laws we can look into having a branch off there
    • Insurance
      • After checking multiple carriers, Cliff advised that the minimum policy is $450 per year.  All inclusive for events we do, parades, meetings, social events, etc.  He would only see it being more if we needed alcohol liability waivers etc which we would defray to places we hold our events.  We will table for a few months until the next fundraiser when we can secure more funding.

        • Stickers for trivia.  Erik will design a 5-question local government trivia card to engage folks
        • Giveaway
          • Try to get gift certificates or something to give
          • Collect free info for chance of winning
            • Data mine that for future recruiting, etc
            • Give away at end of weekend if only one item, or daily as appropriate
            • Candy
              • Easy to give away Dum Dums
                • Less than $.01 each
                • Donation jar next to it could collect decent contributions.  No cost
      • Tabling
        • Stand vs. Sit – Show energy
        • Info for giveaway, so we may gather names and addresses
        • Engage people and talk to them to peak interest
        • Melissa will try to put out details once closer, before she leaves town
    • Non-MCYR Events
      • Mark Daniels advised that when we go to these, appropriate to wear our new shirts, etc for advertisement and networking
      • Hand out pamphlets as well
    • Donations
      • If we solicit, Steven Frett inquired whom do we take donations for.  Advised make checks out to McHenry County Young Republicans Club.
      • Melissa will work the GOP golf outing for donations and sponsorships.
    • Next meeting
      • August 17, 10 AM.  Melissa Sanchez will inquire with Algonquin township for their meeting room.  If not, perhaps back at Liberty Storage.
      • Motion to Adjourn at 11:35 AM by Michael, Andrew seconded.  Unanimous approval.
